Abstract

Inline current-voltage (IV) characterization is the principal end-of-line acceptance test for industrial solar cell production. Modern flash testers must reconcile competing objectives resolution sufficient to support fine binning, throughput compatible with one-second-per-wafer line cadence, repeatability within tolerable cell-grading uncertainty, and stability across multi-shift operation. This article reviews current measurement architectures, contrasts the trade-offs among simultaneous-multiflash, sequential-flash, and continuous-illumination approaches, and analyzes the implications of measurement-uncertainty propagation on cell-bin width selection. We provide design guidance for production engineers selecting IV-tester platforms and for process engineers establishing binning structures that balance grade-mix flexibility against logistical complexity in module manufacturing.
